CHS Boys Track Team Races to Third Straight Win

Chelsea High’s boys track team secured its third consecutive victory on Monday, dominating Greater Lawrence with a decisive 98.5-37.5 score. Leading the charge was Norbert Simon, who contributed 18 points through wins in the high jump (5-4), long jump (18-1), and 200 meter dash, while placing second in the 100 meter dash. Santos Hernandez also turned in a strong performance, taking first in both the 400 meter hurdles (65.6) and 110 meter high hurdles (17.9), along with a third-place finish in the triple jump. Christian Ortega dominated the shot put with a throw of 39-4. Luis Hernandez showcased his versatility by winning the triple jump, placing second in both hurdles events, and tying for third in the high jump. The discus saw Rony Gomez emerge victorious with a throw of 95-5, edging his Greater Lawrence rival by just two inches. Joseph Arroyo claimed the mile in 5:27, while Brendan Rath won the 400 meter dash and anchored the victorious 4 x 400 relay team alongside Arroyo, Chester Rath, and Calvin Hernandez. Troy Crossley finished second in the long jump and third in the 200 meter dash. Additional point-getters included Kevin Luu with a second-place triple jump, Edgar Ocana with a personal record in the two mile for second place, and Yehya Nur posting a big personal record in the mile to claim second. Making his 400 meter debut, Chester Rath secured second place in that event. Other contributors were Andy Rath with a personal record in the shot put for second, Juan Achar with thirds in the shot put and discus, Adam Umarov with a personal record in the 400 hurdles for third, Hector Mendoza with a third in the two mile, Edgar Ocana with a third in the 800, Brandon Elder with a third in the 400 meters, and Francisco Colindres with a second-place finish in the 800. “We had a lot of improvements coming off the vacation week,” remarked CHS head coach Don Fay. “but we need to become more motivated and focused  for our upcoming meets.” With an undefeated 3-0 record, Fay’s Red Devils will travel to face Whittier Tech next Tuesday at home before hosting Mystic Valley on Thursday.
