Our community and members of the legal profession join together in celebrating Judge Amy Nechtem’s appointment as Chief Justice of the Juvenile Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She previously served at the Essex County Juvenile Court in Lynn.
Trial Court Chief Justice Paula M. Carey’s assessment aligns with our own view of this appointment. According to Chief Justice Carey, Judge Nechtem’s “fblikebutton_button” “judicial and leadership experience will advance juvenile justice and child welfare” in Massachusetts. This position represents a fitting recognition of Judge Nechtem’s qualifications and dedication.
Judge Nechtem’s roots run deep in Chelsea, where she spent her formative years and received her early education. As a student at Chelsea High School, she distinguished herself both academically and as a member of the varsity cheerleading squad. She went on to attend Simmons College before earning her law degree from Suffolk University Law School and working in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Her parents, Saul and Gladys Nechtem, deserve mention as well. Saul Nechtem was a standout athlete in high school and later achieved distinction at Boston University, where he was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Beyond her judicial work, Judge Nechtem has demonstrated commitment to the community through mentoring students with Girls Inc. and contributing to the annual Law Day program in Lynn.
As Judge Nechtem transitions to her new role as Chief Justice of the Juvenile Court, we recognize her years of exemplary service at the Essex County Juvenile Court and extend our best wishes for her continued success.
