On April 24, the Williams School hosted the Third Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser, which proved to be a tremendous success.
The event’s organization and planning involved numerous individuals and organizations. Ron Fishman led the Chelsea Hunger Network, whose member organizations—Chelsea Community Connections, Mass. General Hospital, St. Luke’s Church, Chelsea WIC, The Neighborhood Developers, Salvation Army, Centro Latino, Chelsea Collaborative, CAPIC Inc., and the Boston Food Bank—all contributed significantly to making the event possible.
The festive gathering drew two hundred residents who watched local celebrities paint soup bowls that were then purchased by donors. Attendees received a complimentary bowl of soup, with Spinelli’s of East Boston, St. Luke’s Church, and Buckingam Browne and Nichols School each preparing and donating portions of the meal.
City Manager Jay Ash, a consistent supporter of the fundraiser, organized a backgammon tournament for guests. Participants had the chance to compete against the former Clark University basketball star in this friendly competition.
The event represented a gratifying outcome for Mr. Fishman and the Chelsea Hunger Network, whose members invested considerable effort in organizing this exceptional fundraiser.
Funds raised through the event were directed entirely to Chelsea food pantries and soup kitchens.
