The Fourth of July weekend’s energy and activity have passed, leaving us to embrace our summer routine—however each of us and our families choose to spend it—over the next nine weeks leading up to Labor Day.
Fortunately, Mother Nature has delivered the classic summer conditions—hazy, hot, and humid—we’ve been anticipating since we battled through 110 inches of snow this past winter. Ocean temperatures have risen noticeably over the last week, climbing from the chilly 50s to the low 60s, making a refreshing swim in the water an enjoyable prospect rather than an ordeal.
As we contemplate the pleasures awaiting us in the coming summer weeks, a tune popularized by Nat King Cole in the early 1960s surfaces in memory—a song from our distant past:
