Bob, the Speaker of the House, is well known to viewers of Channel Five’s “On the Record” Sunday morning show knows that Speaker of the House has a tremendous knowledge of Boston sports — as he often has demonstrated on the “Pop Quiz” segment. As someone passionate about Winthrop High sports, Bob regularly attends games and has frequently highlighted to his peers the strength of Winthrop High’s sports tradition, including the fact that the town is home to Mike Eruzione, the most celebrated Olympic hockey player in history.
The daily sports fantasy industry saw significant expansion this year, and Bob monitored this development with considerable attention. Recognizing the need for appropriate oversight, the Speaker decided to establish a commission dedicated to examining daily fantasy sports. This initiative aims to ensure that Massachusetts approaches this emerging sector with suitable regulatory frameworks in place. The results of this commission’s work are anticipated with interest.
The Speaker will select the individuals he deems most qualified to serve on this significant commission. The resulting study is expected to be comprehensive and rigorous, ultimately serving the interests of the Commonwealth’s residents.
