LARGE HEROIN BUST
Three men, including one from Philadelphia, were arrested by Chelsea Police last week on serious heroin trafficking charges.
On Feb. 2 at approximately 10:22 p.m., detectives conducting routine patrol near Broadway and Fourth Street spotted a dark Malibu speeding down Broadway before making an abrupt turn onto Cross Street. The detectives were operating an unmarked cruiser and dressed in plain clothes. When they stopped the vehicle near the Meridian Street Bridge, they observed passengers attempting to discard and conceal plastic baggies. Further investigation revealed several additional bags containing what was believed to be heroin. All three occupants were taken into custody.
Charged with trafficking in heroin were Javier Rosario, 35, of Philadelphia; Delmi Mejia, 27, of 76 Addison St.; and Mariano De La Cruz, 50, of East Boston.
RESIDENTS APPREHEND ALLEGED ROBBERS
Two alleged robbers were apprehended by Chelsea Police on Chester Avenue last week, with crucial help from residents of the targeted home.
Officers responded on Feb. 3 at 3:21 a.m. to a reported house break-in at 29 Chester Ave. Upon arrival, they found two men attempting to exit the front hall while being restrained by the victims, who shouted to police that the suspects had broken into the basement and were trying to flee. The officers immediately placed both men under arrest.
According to the victims, they heard people in the basement going through their belongings and promptly contacted police.
Steven Hescock, 39, of Revere, and Michael Kane, 29, of Revere, were both charged with breaking and entering in the night for a felony.
HEADS-UP POLICE WORK RECOVERS LOADED FIREARM ON CARY AVE
In what may be a case of a criminal returning to the scene, a loaded firearm was allegedly retrieved during an incident on Cary Avenue.
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, at about 1:39 p.m., Chelsea plain clothes officers patrolling the Cary Avenue and Tudor Street area in an unmarked unit observed a heavy-set male on Tudor Street walking toward their vehicle. The officer immediately recognized him from recent video and still photos distributed by the department in connection with a shooting that occurred on Sunday, Jan. 24.
Upon recognition, the male quickly moved between houses on Tudor Street into an alley. Officers lost sight of him for approximately 30 seconds before locating and detaining him. The individual was identified and released, as no violations were found. A second group of officers responded to conduct a thorough search of the area for any discarded contraband.
While checking an adjacent yard, officers observed a second male on a cell phone being directed into the backyard near where the first subject had disappeared. Officers watched as the second individual, guided by cell phone, approached a plastic container, removed a loaded firearm from it, and placed it in his waistband. Officers immediately revealed themselves and arrested the subject.
Andre Cheek, 18, of 63 Washington Ave., was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possessing ammo without a permit.
A warrant was also issued for the first individual stopped by police for illegal carrying a firearm.
