Julian Gerardo Guerrero of Revere, an Army veteran who spent 25 years as an accountant at Merrill Lynch and sang Sinatra, Johnny Cash and Carlos Gardel to anyone within earshot, died at home with his family on August 18, 2026. He was 85.
He was born on March 18, 1941 in Matanzas, Cuba, to Gerardo Guerrero and Ana Luisa Milian de Guerrero. After his Army service he built a career in finance in New York, where colleagues followed him after work to Delmonico’s to hear him sing. He drove a gold 1969 Cadillac Eldorado, kept a houseful of dogs and cats and a parrot that rode on his shoulder, read widely, argued politics, and kept asking after other people’s families even as his own health failed.
He and Alicia Mercedes Saumet were married 55 years. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughters, Myrna A. Guerrero-McCabe and her husband Robb of Revere, and Sylvia M. Guerrero and her partner Ed McCarthy of Holiday, Florida; his grandchildren, Sienna and Jake McCabe; his sisters Silvia Guerrero Milian and Mirna Hamneris Guerrero of Cuba and his brother José Rafael Guerrero; and a large family of in-laws in Colombia.
Visiting hours were held August 22 at the Paul Buonfiglio and Sons Funeral Home, 128 Revere Street, Revere, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family suggests donations to the ASPCA.
