Wilfredo Armando Benitez, a commercial bakery mixer who raised six children in Chelsea over nearly twenty years, died on September 5, 2026 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 60.
He was born on August 10, 1966 in Agua Caliente, El Salvador, a son of Maria Teresa Ardon and the late Sacarias Benitez, and went to school there before coming to the United States. He and his wife, Alma Hernandez, settled in Chelsea, where he spent his working life mixing dough for commercial bakeries.
Soccer was his game, and FC Barcelona was his club. Anyone who spent time with him heard about it.
Calling hours are tonight, Friday, September 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea. The funeral is Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
Besides his wife and his mother, he leaves his children, Estella Benitez, Wilfredo A. Benitez Jr., Manuel Benitez, Omar Benitez, Veronica Benitez and Henri Benitez; six grandchildren; and his brothers, Saul Benitez of Chelsea and Beto Benitez of El Salvador.
