THE RACE FOR STATE  REPRESENTATIVE

On March 4, residents of Chelsea will head to the polls to choose their representative in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Chelsea has had the benefit of strong representation in the Legislature, particularly over the past two decades, thanks to Attorney Eugene O’Flaherty, who served with distinction in the House and achieved a prominent leadership role. Kathi Ann Reinstein also made significant contributions, continuing the legacy of public service established by her father, the late William Reinstein, former State Rep. and Mayor of Revere.

With Gene now serving as corporation counsel for the City of Boston and working alongside his former House colleague and current Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, and Kathi taking on an administrative role in the business sector, Chelsea faces two important decisions on March 4.

The candidates running for the seat previously held by Eugene O’Flaherty are Roy Avellaneda, Dan Ryan, and Chris Remmes. For the seat once held by Kathi Ann Reinstein, the candidates are Attorney Josh Monahan, Linda Santos Rosa, and RoseLee Vincent. In the Republican primary, Todd Taylor is the sole candidate and will face the winner of the Democratic primary in the general election on April 1.

We encourage voters to closely examine the candidates’ messages and participate in this crucial election that will shape Chelsea’s future.

Chelsea has been home to many outstanding state representatives, including the late Andrew P. Quigley, who also served as mayor, state senator, and School Committee member, as well as former Mayor Hugh McLaughlin, the charismatic Bobby Donovan, and Richard Voke, former House Ways and Means Chairman, who was a strong advocate for the city and played a key role in the construction of the Jordan Boys and Girls Club.

Regardless of who is elected as the next state representatives, we are confident they will uphold the tradition of committed leadership and work diligently for the benefit of all Chelsea residents.
