Robert S. DeVito, a longtime member of P.A.V. Post 13 Chelsea, died on Wednesday March 24 at the Annemark Nursing home in North Revere following a brief illness. Born and raised in East Boston, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Elvira (Puya) DeVito. After graduating from East Boston High School, he enlisted immediately in the US Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater with the 2266th Quartermaster Truck Co. and receiving an honorable discharge in 1947 at the rank of Tech. 5th grade. He initially settled in Everett, where he worked as a foreman for NASCO bedding in Chelsea until his retirement. For the past 30 years a Chelsea resident, he maintained his long association with P.A.V. Post 13 Chelsea. He was the beloved husband of 22 years of Helena (Piecha) DeVito, who died in 1998. He is also survived by his brother Joseph DeVito of Everett, as well as many nieces and nephews. His late siblings include Marie Vecchione, Armando and Anthony DeVito. A funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Grace Church on Tuesday, followed by burial with full military honors in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
