“If this is the last, let’s make it a blast!” is a sentiment that many party-goers share on New Year’s Eve, as they look forward to bidding farewell to the past year and welcoming the new one.
However, New Year’s Eve is not different from any other day — excessive partying on this night can lead to the same level of destruction and tragedy as on other occasions, particularly when individuals choose to drink and drive.
Over the years, many have become more aware of the risks. Options such as staying at hotels, sleeping over at friends’ homes, using designated drivers, limos, or ride-sharing services like Uber have become more common.
Yet, there are still some who have not fully grasped the message that overindulgence can be harmful and that drinking and driving is never acceptable. Everyone has a role to play in ensuring that no one they know is allowed to drive while under the influence.
Let’s aim for a safe New Year’s Eve for ourselves, our families, and our friends, and start 2016 on a positive note.
