FAREWELL K-9 ANCHO
Last week, Chelsea Police officers mourned the loss of K-9 Officer ‘Ancho.’
The K-9 officer died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, while at home with his handler, Officer Joe Capistran.
Chief Brian Kyes released a statement regarding the loss: “It is with deep regret and heartfelt sorrow that I must sadly take this opportunity to announce the sudden and untimely passing of Chelsea Police Department K-9 ‘Ancho’ while resting at his home with his Handler and Best Friend Officer Joe Capistran,” he said. “Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to Joey and his entire family during this extremely difficult time. As we know Ancho has been Joe’s loyal and always reliable partner for the past several years but more than that he was a beloved member of Joe’s family. He has been an incredible asset for the department and the City during his tenure and will be sincerely missed by everyone at 19 Park Street, but NEVER forgotten.”
K-9 Officer Ancho joins K-9 Officer Marco, who passed away recently. Both K-9 officers served the department for many years.
SHOOTING INCIDENT ON ADDISON STREET
An investigation is underway following a shooting on Sunday evening, Jan. 24, near 61 Addison St. that resulted in a 23-year-old Chelsea resident sustaining a non life-threatening gunshot wound.
According to the victim’s account, he was pursued by a group of unknown males who attempted to initiate a conversation with him. The victim reported that one male, dressed in a grey sweatshirt, removed a metallic colored firearm from his pants. As the victim fled the scene, he heard two gunshots and subsequently discovered he had been struck in the neck area. Officers and EMS provided assistance and transported the victim to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for treatment.
The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are requesting public assistance in identifying the suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Chelsea Police Detective Unit at 617-466-4849 or submit an anonymous tip through chelseapolice.com.
SUSPECT ID’D IN TU CASA STABBING
Chelsea Detectives are actively pursuing a suspect in connection with a Saturday night assault that injured two patrons at Tu Casa Restaurant on Broadway. Officers responded to 403 Broadway on Saturday evening, Jan. 23, at 8:12 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims bearing injuries consistent with slashing wounds.
Both victims were transported to area hospitals where they received treatment for serious, but non life threatening injuries. Information provided by witnesses at the establishment enabled officers to identify the suspected perpetrator.
An arrest warrant was obtained from Chelsea District Court for the individual, and a BOLO was issued to surrounding departments to facilitate apprehension.
