Chelsea is experiencing early voting for the first time, and participation has been robust since the process started on Oct. 24. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, alone, approximately 100 ballots were submitted.
According to City Clerk Jeannette Cintron, 475 ballots had been cast by last Saturday, Oct. 29. An additional 100 came in on Nov. 1, bringing the total to just over 600 as of late Tuesday afternoon.
“It has been a good turnout,” Cintron said. “Everyone seems positive about the experience. It has been smooth and busy. Everyone greatly appreciates being able to vote on their schedule. Aside from that, we still have those who have applied for absentee ballots.”
The city clerk noted that 15,938 active and inactive voters are registered for the Nov. 8 election in Chelsea.
Beyond the presidential race and the widely discussed statewide ballot questions, Chelsea residents will encounter Question 5 on their ballots, which seeks to implement the Community Preservation Act (CPA).
