State Senators and Representatives from across the United States gathered in Boston for the 2017 National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Summit, where Senator Sal DiDomenico participated in the proceedings. The conference, held annually in rotating locations throughout the country, brings together elected officials to exchange information and best practices. This year’s event drew record attendance, with more than 6,000 legislators meeting in the Capitol. As a member of several NCSL committees including Student Centered Learning, Senator DiDomenico took part in sessions addressing redistricting, education, intergovernmental affairs, media relations, and manufacturing. The summit also hosted associations, foundations, and governmental agencies. DiDomenico used the opportunity to meet with organizations such as the Nellie Mae Foundation, discussing their educational funding initiatives across New England. He reflected on the experience, stating: “fblikebutton_button” “It was great to join colleagues from throughout the country, and gather information that we can use in our own districts and throughout the Commonwealth,” and added, “Having this summit in Boston also allowed us to showcase our collaborative approach to governing that has moved our state forward.”
The NCSL has served as an advocate for state legislatures since 1975, working to keep states strong and independent by providing them with essential tools, information and resources to address complex challenges. The organization has opposed unwarranted Congressional actions and has saved states more than $1 billion. Its mission centers on enhancing the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures, fostering policy innovation and communication, and maintaining a unified and powerful voice for the states.
