When severe weather strikes, our Main Streets, independent retailers, and local storefronts often serve as the first point of contact and initial support for affected communities.
The Climate Action Business Association (CABA) is bringing its efforts to Chelsea this summer, aiming to provide small business owners with resources and strategies to build resilience against extreme weather events.
Through the Businesses Acting on Rising Seas (BARS) campaign, CABA works to raise awareness among small business operators and community leaders about climate change and the importance of adopting climate-resilient strategies.
In 2016, the BARS initiative engaged more than 500 Massachusetts businesses and earned national attention, leading to Executive Director Michael Green receiving the White House Champions of Change Award for Climate Equity. This year’s approach has been refined to better serve individual communities, with each location receiving customized resilience guides that include local data and relevant resources.
Working in partnership with the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and the local nonprofit GreenRoots, CABA has developed practical, affordable measures that small business owners can implement to strengthen their climate preparedness. Throughout the week beginning July 16, CABA representatives will be conducting outreach to Chelsea’s small business sector. Those interested can also reach out beforehand to arrange a conversation and join the BARS campaign.
