Fire Chief Len Albanese’s contract has been extended for three additional years by City Manager Tom Ambrosino.
Albanese joined the City in 2016, coming from North Providence after a search committee identified several finalists, including candidates from within the department. His previous contract was scheduled to end in June 2019. Ambrosino expressed satisfaction with the Chief’s performance during his tenure, noting “The chief and I began discussions about an extension, and we recently agreed on this new three-year term,” wrote Ambrosino. “I have been extremely satisfied with Chief Albanese’s leadership and management of the Fire Department since his arrival in 2016. I believe this extension is fully justified.”

As a Charlestown resident, Albanese will receive a 3 percent salary increase in the first year of the new agreement. The subsequent two years include the possibility of up to 3 percent annual increases, contingent on Ambrosino’s review.
The Chief’s benefits package includes 25 vacation days annually, with the ability to carry over up to five weeks of unused vacation time between years, though the maximum accumulation cannot exceed 10 weeks. Additionally, he receives 15 sick days per year and an automobile as part of his contract.
The extended contract takes effect on July 1, 2019.
