ABUSED DOG, WOMAN
A woman was feloniously assaulted on Oct. 30 at 9:45 a.m. while walking her dog near 175 Crescent Ave. She witnessed another female striking a dog while walking with a young child on the same street. The victim approached the woman to suggest alternative methods of discipline, but the suspect responded with obscenities. When the victim threatened to contact police about the animal abuse from across the street, the suspect and a second female attacked her. Both individuals were taken into custody, with one facing an additional animal cruelty charge.
Terez Durbano, 40, of Revere, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, cruelty to animals, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
ARSON SUSPECT ARRESTED
A Chelsea resident was arrested by Chelsea Police on Nov. 8 in connection with a fire at 28-30 Hawthorne St. that occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 2. An attached shed was ignited and the flames rapidly extended to the rear porches, resulting in approximately $10,000 in damages.
Edward Watson, 59, of Chelsea, was charged with one count of burning a building, one count of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, and one count of trespassing. The two-alarm fire broke out at 1:30 p.m. at a four-story apartment building undergoing renovations, with the shed located on its property.
There were no injuries reported.
A joint investigation by Chelsea Police and Fire, along with State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal, concluded the fire was intentionally set. Investigators noted that community assistance proved valuable in resolving the case.
The Suffolk County DA’s Office will handle prosecution.
FOUND WITH GUN
Two CPD officers on patrol on Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. observed a group of youths on Cross Street moving into an alleyway on Division Street with poor lighting. The officers spotted three males appearing to pass marijuana, which was confirmed upon approach. As identification was requested, one male tensed his arm in a manner suggesting concealment beneath his pants pocket. Officers instructed him to remove his hands.
The juvenile did not comply.
Officers suspected contraband was being hidden and removed the youth’s hand, discovering a firearm in his pocket. He was taken into custody.
A 17-year-old juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm without a permit, possession of ammo without a permit and carrying a loaded firearm without a permit.
CAR BREAKER
CPD officers responded to 9 Shurtleff St. on Oct. 31 at 2:20 a.m. following a report of breaking and entering to a motor vehicle in progress. Chelsea Dispatch informed arriving officers that a caller had spotted the suspect attempting to break into a parked vehicle. The suspect reportedly left the scene heading toward Marginal Street, where officers detained him and recovered items taken from the car.
He was arrested.
Anthony Benson, 27, of East Boston, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and larceny under $1,200 by scheme.
FOILED ON FACEBOOK
CPD detectives learned on Nov. 2 of a Facebook post containing still images of a person who had broken into a Chelsea resident’s home on Spencer Avenue. The victim had posted the video publicly. Officers issued a BOLO based on the male subject’s image and apprehended him that same evening.
Edwin Castro, 29, of 916 Broadway, was charged with breaking and entering in the day for a felony and a probation warrant.
