Chelsea High’s football team suffered a devastating 35-0 defeat against North Shore Tech on Friday night under the lights at Chelsea Stadium, a performance that will hardly be remembered fondly from the 20100 campaign. “I was very disappointed with the way we played,” is how head coach Mike Stellato characterized the loss. “We just didn’t come ready to play. That is not to take anything away from No. Shore, which executed well and beat us in every phase of the game.” The Red Devil gridsters got an early warning of what lay ahead when a ballcarrier fumbled on the game’s opening play from scrimmage, allowing No. Shore to set up at the CHS 25-yard line and eventually punch in a score on third and goal from five yards. After Chelsea managed only a three-and-out on the next possession, Tech took over at the CHS 40 following the punt. Within six plays, another third and goal situation resulted in a touchdown, making it 13-0. Chelsea High responded by moving the ball from its own 30 into Tech territory on the subsequent drive, but a Tech defensive end made a spectacular play, intercepting a Red Devil pass and returning it 60 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0. Before halftime, Tech scored again, adding a fourth touchdown on an 85-yard drive that came after Juan Martinez delivered a booming punt that seemed to have pinned Tech deep in its own end. The visitors added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the 35-0 victory. “The early turnovers really killed us, as has been the case many times this season,” noted Stellato, whose team now carries a 3-6 record. Despite the lopsided loss, Stellato praised the defensive performances of linebackers Brayan Blanco and Walter Cortez, defensive tackle Andy Rath, and defensive end Rony Gomez. Stellato’s squad will attempt to finish the season positively when they travel Saturday morning to Northeast Regional Vocational School to face their Commonwealth Athletic Conference rival. The kickoff is scheduled for 10:30.
