John R. Martinello, a lifelong resident of Chelsea and Everett, died on August 29, 2026 after a brief illness. It was his 92nd birthday.
He was the son of the late Carmine and Theresa (Petruzsiello) Martinello. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1960.
In 1957 he married Florence E. Cronin. They raised two daughters in Everett. Florence died in 1979, and for the last 17 years of his life he lived in Saugus with his daughter Gail.
He spent much of his working life at the Thomas S. Strahan Co. in Chelsea as a wallcovering printer. After he retired he volunteered as a van driver for Teen Challenge, carrying people to and from services in the Boston and Brockton areas. He liked music from the 1950s.
He is survived by his daughters Julia A. Guanci of Everett and Gail M. Radzikowski of Saugus and their husbands, and by three grandchildren. He was predeceased by six siblings.
Calling hours were held at the Welsh Funeral Home on Broadway in Chelsea on September 4, followed by a funeral service. He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, beside his wife.
