Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle rollover crash on Marginal Street early Monday morning, and one of the drivers tried to leave on foot before he was stopped at the scene.
The crash happened at about 4 a.m. on Labor Day, according to WCVB, which first reported it. Two vehicles were involved. The driver of one of them attempted to run from the area and was stopped where the crash occurred. A woman in the other vehicle was also injured.
Neither person’s injuries are considered serious.
What has not been said
The available account is thin, and several things that matter have not been released.
Chelsea police have not issued a statement on the crash. The department’s most recent posted releases concern new officers sworn in July and a restraining order advisory, and nothing has gone up about Monday morning. No names have been made public, no ages, and no indication of where either driver is from.
Nothing has been said about whether the driver who tried to leave was arrested or charged, or whether he was the driver at fault. Attempting to walk away from a crash is not the same thing as being charged with leaving the scene, and no charge has been announced. There is also no word on what caused the rollover, whether speed or impairment is being looked at, or how long Marginal Street was affected.

Marginal Street
Marginal Street runs along the industrial waterfront at the edge of the city, and it is not the first serious crash there.
In November 2024 a moped operator was killed on the westbound side of Marginal Street near Highland Avenue. Chelsea police said at the time that no other vehicle was involved, and the operator was pronounced dead later at Massachusetts General Hospital. That cause was still under investigation when the department put out its statement.
One crash does not make a pattern, and there is nothing so far to connect the two. It is worth noting only that the street has produced a fatal crash inside the last two years.
