Chester J. “Chet” Mazzone, a meat cutter who spent his whole working life at the trade, ran his own company for decades and lived in Revere for 60 years, died on August 23, 2026 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a long illness. He was 87.
He was born on February 18, 1939 in Winthrop to Frederick and Michelina (Paolillo) Mazzone, one of three brothers raised in Medford, and graduated from Medford High School in 1957. He enlisted in the Air Force and served on active duty during the Vietnam era. On April 16, 1961 he married Vita Bertolino; they started out in Medford and moved to Revere in the mid-1960s. He cut meat for his brother-in-law’s firm, Bertolino Beef, for years and in 1980 opened his own business, M and M Provisions, often holding down more than one job at a time to support the family.
He and Vita were married 65 years. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughters, Michele Capo of Reading, Joanne Murphy and her husband Brian Sr. of Revere, and Deborah Tisi of Peabody; eight grandchildren, Brian Murphy Jr., Kristina Caruso, Alexander Tisi, Daniel Murphy, Marisa Tisi, Gianna Capo, Anthony Capo and Jonathan Murphy; and his brother Gerard Mazzone of Florida. His brother Carmen died before him.
Visiting hours were held August 27 at the Vertuccio Smith and Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach Street, Revere, with a funeral Mass August 28 at St. Anthony of Padua Church and burial with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. The family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
