John J. Wiemert, a Marine Corps veteran who carried mail in Boston for the Postal Service for many years and was a longtime Revere resident, died at home on August 11, 2026. He was 87.
He was born and raised in Charlestown, enlisted in the Marines soon after high school, and was honorably discharged in 1958. He came home, married Geraldine “Gerry” Marcella, and moved to Revere to raise a family. He earned a bachelor’s degree while working, put in years at Boston Sand and Gravel, and retired from the Postal Service in 2007.
His wife died before him, as did his son John S. Wiemert. He leaves his children, Jacqueline O’Brien, Deborah Phiffer and Mark Montalto; his grandchildren, Stephen Fabiano, Kevin O’Brien, Marc Montalto, Frankie Montalto, Bobby Jones and Alison Jones; and his brother, Francis “Frank” Wiemert of Charlestown. His siblings Mary, Katherine and Larry Wiemert died before him.
Visiting hours were held August 14 at the Vertuccio Smith and Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach Street, Revere, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church and burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
