Anthony “Spucky” Spagnolo, a lifelong Revere resident and Army paratrooper who never turned down an argument about politics or history, died September 29. He was 84. Visitation was Saturday, October 3, at Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home in Revere, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
He was born in Boston on January 13, 1942, the son of Rosario and Teresa Spagnolo, and grew up and lived in Revere. He served in the Army with the Airborne. Around the city he was known for his opinions and a quick mind, and at home for his garden.
His family said the center of his life was his son, Michael Spagnolo, and his grandson, Anthony Spagnolo, and that being a grandfather meant more to him than anything. They also named Amy, his grandson’s mother, and his close friend Kenny DeFeo, who cared for him to the end.
He leaves his sister Katherine Tiro of Malden, formerly of Revere, widow of Ralph; his sister Connie Riley of Saugus; and his brother Vincent “Jimmy” Spagnolo and Jimmy’s wife, Donna, also of Saugus, along with nieces and nephews. His parents and four siblings, Domenic Spagnolo, Mary Flammia, Elizabeth Arone and Rosario “Joe” Spagnolo, died before him, as did Patricia Tripoli, Michael’s mother.
