Rayan Naim and Ace the Fox were among the highlights at the Second Annual Move It Health Fair, which took place on Saturday, April 9 at the Williams School between 1 and 3:30 p.m. The event drew more than 500 children and families, a significant jump from the nearly 150 families who attended in its first year. Created in response to rising rates of childhood obesity, the fair aimed to advance individual, family, and community wellness through activities including dance, martial arts, and fitness programs. Presentations featured organizations such as the YMCA of East Boston, Capoeira Brasil Martial Arts Group, and Zumba instructor Jeanette Velez from CAPIC Head Start. Attendees participated directly in dance and movement activities led by presenters, reinforcing messages about the value of physical activity and healthy living. More than 30 community-based organizations from Chelsea, Revere, East Boston, and Winthrop set up tables showcasing their health and fitness initiatives and local resources. Participants encountered organizations including Angel Food Ministries, Department of Conservation and Recreation, Chelsea Kiwanis, Revere Public Library, and Boston University School of Dental Medicine. Visitors earned stickers at each table they visited, which qualified them for entry into a raffle featuring fitness equipment, healthy food baskets, bike helmets, and gift cards. A drawing for a 16″ children’s bicycle for one lucky family. Family & Community Network Coordinator, Laura Budhai credits the success of the fair to the interactive nature of the event and to the work of the planning committee, local organizations, and donors, “This year’s planning committee did a great job of organizing the event, fundraising, and coordinating volunteers. We also couldn’t have done it without the willingness of community organizations to volunteer their time to host a table and engage the crowd in a demonstration.” Members of the Interact Club from Chelsea High School volunteered alongside the planning committee throughout the day.
