Local author Jay Atkinson will talk about his new crime novel, “Storrow Drive,” at the Chelsea Public Library on Saturday, October 24, at 1 p.m. The book is dedicated to Scott Conley, a detective who served on the Chelsea Police Department for nearly three decades, according to the City of Chelsea.
The novel follows Joe Dolan, a freelance reporter working alongside the city’s anti-gang task force, according to an excerpt published by Boston Magazine, which says the book is out from Livingston Press. In a Boston University interview in February, Atkinson said the book explores an FBI campaign to disrupt street gangs and drug dealing in Boston, and that he turned to fiction to tell what his earlier nonfiction reporting on the subject left out.
“Unlike most journalists, I had complete access to the FBI gang task force,” Atkinson told BU, where he has taught writing at the College of Communication for 18 years. He has written 10 books, five novels and five works of nonfiction, including “Legends of Winter Hill.”
The city describes the event as a chance to hear the story behind the book and “the local connection that makes this novel especially meaningful to our community.”
