Chelsea High’s softball team notched its second victory of the season by decisively defeating Lynn Tech 28-4 in a game that ended after five innings due to the mercy rule. Anisia Santiago took the mound to start for the Lady Red Devils and performed solidly during the opening two innings. The team’s senior captain, Erin Kelley, entered midway through the second inning and proceeded to shut out Lynn Tech for the remainder of the game. Offensive contributions came from several Chelsea players, including Darcy and Danielle Smith. Third baseman Katherine Pacas turned in a solid defensive performance, while Gabby Salazar executed a one-handed running catch in centerfield and subsequently doubled off a base runner at third. The Lady Red Devils faced a tougher challenge on Monday when they took on N.E. Vocational. Despite the loss, Chelsea held its own against one of the league’s strongest teams through the first three innings. Santiago started again for Chelsea, with Kiana Binford entering the game and pitching effectively in her debut. Under Coach Ted Freeley’s direction, the squad had a scheduled appearance at Mystic Valley yesterday (Wednesday) and will play host to Mystic tomorrow. Upcoming contests include a Monday matchup at Minuteman Regional and a Wednesday game at Shawsheen Tech.
