Ralph R. Musto of Revere, who started at Star Market as a part-time bagger and retired forty years later as a store manager and seafood buyer with a legendary sale to his name, has died. He was born in Boston in 1939 and grew up in Revere, the son of Dr. Ralph Robert Musto Sr. and Renata A. Musto, and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Revere in 1957.
He served six years in the Air Force Reserve and was on duty with his unit during the Cuban Missile Crisis. At Star Market he ran the Medford Square and Woburn stores and spent fifteen years as a seafood buyer. People in the grocery business still talk about the day he moved a million dollars of product.
He and Joan M. Musto were married 64 years. In retirement he spent his time with his grandchildren and their friends around Bedford, worked his garden, traveled and played golf.
Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Kristin M. Musto Ferrari, and her husband Peter J. Ferrari of Bedford; his grandchildren Alexander, Emma and Ryan Ferrari, who called him Papa; his sister, Elaine Musto Scarfo, and her husband Dominic of Coral Springs, Florida; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, September 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington. The funeral leaves the funeral home Thursday, September 17 at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Brigid Church in Lexington. Burial at Westview Cemetery is private. The family suggests donations to Runway for Recovery.
